Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Ancient China is the birthplace of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The techniques have been used for more than 2,500 years using mind/body practices and herbal medicine to treat or prevent health problems.
Tai Chi and qi gong are two mind/body practices used by TCM along with acupuncture which uses sterile needles placed along strategic body locations.
Other approaches include Moxibustion (burning an herb above the skin to apply heat to acupuncture points, tui na (Chinese Therapeutic Massage), and dietary therapy.
TCM is considered safe if sterile needles are used. However, there is currently no scientific research to support whether it is effective.
In the US, TCM is considered a complementary medical approach used by over a 1,000,000 people..
